CONFERENCE SPOTLIGHT: Effective PreK-3 Models for Virginia’s Schools Institute
On October 1, 2018, the University of Virginia hosted 25 teams from school divisions around the state to attend the Effective PreK-3 Models for Virginia’s Schools Institute. The event was created to build awareness about how effective approaches to supporting learning from preschool to grade three can help ensure that all young children in Virginia start school with the skills they need to succeed in school and life.
Two national speakers provided teams research-backed frameworks as well as practical approaches to guide their early phases of PreK-3 work. Dr. Kristie Kauerz, director of the National P-3 Center, and Dr. Sharon Ritchie, director of the FirstSchool Initiative, have shared their presentation from the event below.
Presented by Dr. Kristie Kauerz and Dr. Sharon Ritchie
Dr. Bridget Hamre, from UVA, provided a background and state context for the work.
The UVA-Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) would like to thank the Virginia ASCD (VASCD), Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), and Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals (VAESP) for collaborating on this event. VASCD will be in contact with participating teams to provide support following the event.
